The Strategic Energy and Risk Valuation Model is used for evaluating the reliability of any electric system and its interconnected areas in terms of frequency of reliability events (Loss of Load Events and Emergency Purchases), the magnitude of such events (MWh) and the economic impact of such events (societal and direct costs). Because SERVM also considers reliability costs for both unserved energy and emergency purchases, system planners can use the model to economically plan for reliability. SERVM has been used extensively for studies including reserve margins, renewable resource integration, and demand response integration. Although designed specifically for reliability, SERVM is also capable of performing production cost analysis.
